Attemperator Inspection

The attemperator (or desuperheater) in most of the power plants, is an emergency system which is not designed to operate continuously, though in some plants it is continuously used. Water hammering, fatigue, thermal shock are some of the mechanisms that can generate flaws in the attemperator and its neighborhood. Another issue with attemperators is detecting leaks in them.

All these issues are inherently hard to locate and test with traditional NDE tools and acoustic emission comes in very handy. Margan attemperation monitoring addresses this with a comprehensive evaluation of the attemperator and surroundings. It provides:
•    Thermal shock and fatigue indications
•    Valve leakage testing
•    Uniform vs. uneven attemperation
